Standard 8, Super 8 and 16mm Film Storage
The majority of films we transfer are at the very least 25 years old and in some cases getting close to 100 years old. It’s a miracle that some of these films are still in one piece, never mind able to playback their contents.
This fact alone, highlights the importance of storing films carefully. Ideally in a temperature controlled environment with minimal humidity and out of any sort of direct light.
Obviously it’s impossible to turn back the clock and what’s done is done. Often films are stuffed in some old box and left out in the garage for decades – hardly ideal.
In cases like this, our digital remastering process can address some issues such as colour correction, contrast and even some scratches, dust and other such problems. Unfortunately, the quality of such transfers will never compare with those on films in pristine, original condition.
