Film to DVD

We are the Ultimate Specialists in transferring your

Super 8, 8mm and 16mm Film to DVD.

As a guide, we can fit approx 90 minutes of footage on a DVD at 100% full quality (1125 ft 8mm or 1285 ft Super 8). If your footage is longer than 90 minutes, there are two options, reduce the quality which is not recommended, or split it onto multiple DVD's. Generally, the quality of your DVD will be substantially better than your original projected film and if you choose the frame by frame capture option, you'll also see 10% more of the film.

Your film is first inspected for bad splices, bends, curling, emulsion breakdown, broken perforations and necessary repairs are carried out. We then clean each film with our specially imported antistatic conditioning solution which cleans, lubricates and preserves your precious film. Most other service providers don't do this. Why transfer all that dust, dirt and fluff onto your precious new DVD?

Our transfer service and prices include the above pre-preparation, Digitising, adding Chapters and transferring your Film to DVD, on-disc printing of the details, plus a DVD case and printed Slik insert. More importantly, it includes our uncomprising dedication to Quality

Please mark your films in order of date and /or preference ie, 1, 2, 3 that you would like them to appear on your DVD.

If no order is specified, we can only convert them as they come out of the box.

If you don't know what's on your films, we have viewers, editors, splicing kits, reels and projectors available for hire and for sale.

Generally, if more than eight 3 inch (50ft) rolls of film are involved, we will splice them together onto a brand new 400 ft reel including a new case to preserve them and this is how they will be returned to you. If you want them left on 3" reels, please let us know and we can quote you accordingly. We only use genuine Kodak Professional Splicing Cement and/or Kodak Splicing Tapes.

Beware of Cheaper Film to DVD conversions.

Without going into all the technical complexities, there are transfers and there are transfers. Whatever price you pay, you get what you pay for. Do your homework before accepting the cheapest quote. There is nothing worse than have your treasured memories converted to DVD and getting a sub standard result. As many customers have told us, "we went with a cheaper quote and we basically did our dough, the quality was terrible and now have to pay again to get it done with your frame by frame capture method." Your Treasured Memories are worth a few dollars more to get what you expect and the best possible quality, rather than someone filming your Treasured Memories off the lounge wall and giving you an inferior product.

Having the Best Available Transfer Technology and Equipment is only half the Equation...

We also have the passion and personal attention to detail that ensures you get the best possible transfer.

I personally do every film conversion and every project gets my full undivided attention.

As we use the most advanced 'state of the art' digital conversion, editing and authoring systems during the transfer process, we can even provide a 'digital re-mastering' service to correct some faults and enhance your original footage. View our Editing page or Contact us for further details.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are a few ways of transferring film to DVD with various degrees of quality and price. Depending on the quality of your footage and how you want to preserve your precious memories, we can convert it using the following methods:
a:) Projecting the footage onto our specially developed screen
and filming it using a professional 3chip camera to capture the projected image.
This method is used if you want the cheapest and most economical option. There are obviously downsides to this method due to aligning the camera to the projector, which means that slight angle distortion will be visable. Due to capturing the footage from a screen, the end result will be "grainy" and as seen on your normal home projector screen. This is how it used to be done some years ago and how most other companies still do it. Sorry, we don't do this method anymore as the quality is too dissapointing.
b:) Conversion through our Standard Telecine unit
and digitising the footage via a macro lens and a professional 3chip digital capture device.
Slightly better quality, less "grain" effect, and no angle distortion. This is better than filming from a screen and eliminates the annoying angle distortion, but will still have some projector and speed variation gitters, hotspots and blackened edges.
c:) The Ultimate Frame by Frame Capture Process for those wanting the best
Utilising the Most Advanced Technology, Individual Frame by Frame Capture .
This conversion involves capturing each individual frame of the film with the very latest "state of the art" frame by frame transfer technology and is the best consumer conversion process available anywhere in the world. Our frame by frame scanner is hand made in America by the same company that provides Hollywood archive agencies with their tranfer scanners.. A bit more expensive, but the extra quality is definitely worth the extra dollars. No flicker, no hot spots, no burn't out frames or fuzzy blackened edges. Simply the best. Another advantage is that the film cannot be damaged by overheated projector lamps or jammed projectors because our frame by frame capture process uses a 40 watt cool daylight balanced globe.
(Frame by frame transfer is only available for 8mm and Super8.)
